Alexander Zverev clinched his maiden U.S. Open title in New York on Sunday, beating local favourite Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 in the final.
The triumph made Zverev only the second German in the Open Era after Boris Becker (1989) to be crowned the US Open Champion.
Overall, since 1968, Zverev is the 32nd different men’s singles winner at Flushing Meadows.
Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras Roger Federer remains the most decorated male champions in New York with five titles each.
