Sally Field Warns “Our Voices Matter” in Emmys Win Amid Pending Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger

Sally Field won the Emmy for lead actress in a limited or anthology series or TV movie for her role as Tova Sullivan in the Netflix film Remarkably Bright Creatures at the 2026 Emmy Awards on Sunday night.

Field’s win also marks her 10th Emmy nomination and fourth win. She’s previously won for Sybil (1977), ER (2001) and Brothers & Sisters (2007). Field is now the oldest actress to win the category, taking over from Jessica Tandy.

“Wow, wow. This is not supposed to happen,” Field said, shocked by the award. “I love this project from page one.”

She also thanked the creatives behind the project.

Field continued to use her acceptance speech to seemingly nod to the proposed merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery: “I have been so grateful and so proud to be a part of this community, the arts, for 62 years or something. With art, we matter. Our voices matter. Our diversity, our unique storytelling matters,” she said. “We can’t let those voices be silenced or compromised or merged.”

The actress was nominated alongside Carey Mulligan (Beef), Sarah Pidgeon (Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette), Sarah Snook (All Her Fault) and Claire Danes (The Beast In Me).
Field also won two Oscars for best actress for Norma Rae (1980) and Places in the Heart (1985).
