326 hotspots detected in Kalimantan

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 326 hotspots were detected in Kalimantan, Indonesia, as of yesterday, the highest number recorded in any area in the region.
According to the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) website, the figure rose sharply from 212 hotspots recorded on Oct 10.
Sumatra also saw a significant increase, with 303 hotspots detected compared with 17 on Oct 10.
Meanwhile, only one hotspot was detected in Peninsular Malaysia, while none was recorded in Sabah and Sarawak yesterday.
ASMC said the data was based on satellite imagery from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
It said hotspots indicated possible fire locations, but detection could be affected by cloudy conditions or incomplete satellite coverage.
