Exclusive: Emmerdale reveals how Robert Sugden's scheming could backfire

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale boss Sophie Roper has warned that Robert Sugden's scheming could come back to bite him in upcoming episodes.

Robert is currently on a winning streak as he tries to launch an exciting new era for the Sugden family – but his ruthless ambition may not go unpunished for long.

Thursday's episode (8 October) saw Robert celebrate as he finally got his hands on Jimmy King's missing money.

Next week, he also strikes a deal to take over The Hide, which has been struggling badly since Gabby Thomas launched a strict new "healthy eating" menu.

With Robert also running Emmerdale Farm as a tenant farmer, it's certainly a busy time for him – but where will it all end?

Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Sophie explained: "Robert is an incredibly ambitious character – and he's heading into an era on the show where he's desperate to build that Sugden empire. That's a huge part of who he is as a character.

"Aaron doesn't necessarily share those ambitions, but I think the great thing about those two characters is that they know each other's flaws. Aaron is brilliant at cutting through Robert's intentions and grounding it in that reality of: 'What are we doing this for? Why are we doing it? I don't want people getting hurt along the way'."

Sophie added: "Robert is scheming at the moment – and he will have some success with that.

"But it will be about whether those ill intentions might come back to haunt him as well! As manipulative and scheming as Robert is, it doesn't mean that he's going to come out of this unscathed…"
