10 Comedy Movies To Watch If You Love Dumb And Dumber

Translate

The 90s were an incredible time for the comedy genre and were responsible for numerous classics that remain hilarious today. One of those was 1994's Dumb and Dumber, directed by Peter Farrelly. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels star as Lloyd and Harry. Lloyd is a limo driver who falls head over heels for Mary (Lauren Holly), a passenger. He notices Mary leaving a briefcase at the airport, not realizing it's part of a ransom demand.

Lloyd takes the briefcase home, unaware that he and Harry are now involved in a serious criminal plot. The duo decides to take a road trip to Aspen, Colorado, to bring the briefcase back without realizing that two career criminals and eventually the authorities are looking for them. Lloyd also plans to tell Mary how he feels despite knowing almost nothing about her.

As the movie title implies, Lloyd and Harry aren't the smartest, which makes their adventure even more fascinating. They avoid hazards and attempts on their lives without even realizing it. Even the criminals believe they are dealing with a pair of professionals. The story also sets the stage for arguably some of the most memorable comedy scenes in the genre.

Dumb and Dumber offers an unforgettable mix of silly, slapstick, and toilet humor. Carrey and Daniels play incredibly well off each other, and remain among the most memorable comedy duos. The 1994 movie is a tough act to follow, but here's a selection of movies that fans will likely enjoy.

10 Kingpin (1996)

Bill Murray as McKraken celebrating in Kingpin

Kingpin is more grounded than most movies on this list, starring Woody Harrelson as Roy Munson. He's a former pro bowler, forced to retire after he loses a hand crossing the mob. He stays away from the spotlight until he sees Ishmael (Randy Quaid) bowl and believes he has the potential to become a champion.

Ishmael is reluctant to work with Munson at first, but the pair eventually team up. They train together so Ishmael can attend a professional tournament in Reno alongside the best bowlers in the country. Munson also learns that another pro bowler from his past, Ernie McCracken (Bill Murray), is participating.

Bobby and Peter Farrelly directed both Kingpin and Dumb and Dumber, so it's easy to spot similarities between the two movies despite the different stories. The cast is superb, and Bill Murray, in particular, steals the show as McCracken.

9 Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby (2006)

Bobby (Will Ferrell) crashes his car in Talladega Nights

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is an action comedy starring Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby. He's a professional NASCAR driver obsessed with becoming the best. He coins the famous quote "If you ain't first, you're last," but his luck on the track changes when a new rival arrives on the scene.

Bobby clashes with Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen), and their rivalry results in a shocking crash. The incident knocks Bobby's confidence and ultimately takes him out of the racing scene. He eventually gets a chance at redemption, but is he good enough to reclaim his former glory?

The story of Talladega Nights may sound like a typical sports underdog story, but that's the point. Fans of 90s and 2000s comedy will find plenty to enjoy, even if they aren't necessarily into motor racing.

8 Road Trip (2000)

Seann William Scott driving a bus with his friends in Road Trip

Road Trip is a wild 2000s comedy where the journey matters as much as the destination. Josh (Breckin Meyer) is in a long-distance relationship with Tiffany (Rachel Blanchard). He accidentally sends her a videotape that she must not see and embarks on a journey across the US to get to it before she does.

Josh brings a few friends along for the ride, including E. L. (Seann William Scott). The group commandeers a school bus, but a seemingly innocent road trip quickly becomes an adventure as their lack of preparation catches up with them.

Fans of Dumb and Dumber will find a lot to love in Road Trip. The journey is full of unpredictable events, like a trip to a male clinic for fuel money. The stakes are also high because Josh needs to get back to school for an important exam.

7 Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)

Peter and his team in dodgeball a true underdog story

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is another beloved 2000s comedy. Vince Vaughn stars as Peter La Fleur. He owns a struggling gym on the verge of financial ruin and hatches a plan with several patrons to save it.

That plan is to enter and win a dodgeball tournament for the prize money. They expect to soundly thrash the competition, but are quickly humbled until a coach, Patches O'Houlihan (Rip Torn), teaches them the ropes. The misfit team starts to work as a unit, though a rival gym run by White Goodman (Ben Stiller) stands in the way of the cash reward.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is laugh-out-loud funny and surprisingly quotable. Fans can still recite the five rules of dodgeball decades later, and the premise is brought to life by a superb cast.

6 Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)

Ashton Kutcher as Jesse and Seann William Scott as Chester in dude wheres my car

Dude, Where's My Car? is a charming 2000s buddy comedy starring Ashton Kutcher as Jesse and Seann William Scott as Chester. The pair have woken up after a wild night of partying they have no recollection of. They also quickly notice that Jesse's car is missing.

Jesse and Chester slowly try to piece together what happened that night. They realize they were so wasted they replaced all the food in the house with pudding. The duo also learns they had an incredibly powerful device in the Continuum Transfunctioner, but they have no idea where it went or why strange people are asking them for it.

Dude, Where's My Car? is full of memorable scenes, including one where Jesse and Chester pick a fight with a drive-through speaker. The movie also leans heavily into sci-fi later on, making it stand out against similar comedy films.

5 Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery (1997)

Mike Myers smiling at the camera in Austin Powers

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery is more of a James Bond parody than a road trip adventure. Still, Mike Myers is hilarious as a respected spy, and the movie is full of charming 90s humor and a wonderfully over-the-top villain.

Austin is a spy from the 60s and was cryogenically frozen. His nemesis, Dr. Evil (also played by Mike Myers), plans to hold the world hostage for a ransom in the 90s. British authorities thaw Austin to deal with his rival, but our hero quickly learns that much has changed over the past few decades, and it's no longer the swinging 60s.

Much of the humor in International Man of Mystery comes from Austin's inability to adjust to the 90s. James Bond fans will also appreciate the playful jabs at the franchise, and the sequel, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, continues Power's story.

4 Zoolander (2001)

Ben Stiller as Derek Zoolander in Zoolander 2

Zoolander is a wonderfully silly early 2000s comedy starring Ben Stiller as Derek Zoolander. He's a successful male model, known for his trademark look, Blue Steel. Zoolander is at the top of his game until a rival model, Hansel (Owen Wilson), wins a prestigious fashion award instead of him.

The story takes a dark turn when Mugatu (Will Ferrell), a mysterious fashion designer, sets a deadly plan in motion. Zoolander and Hansel eventually set aside their differences and work together, even if they are both in way over their heads.

The Zoolander movie and Dumb and Dumber feel eerily similar, as both feature a duo who navigate dangerous situations entirely by luck. Stiller and Wilson play well off each other, and the movie goes all in on its ridiculous premise.

3 Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

Bill and Ted standing around a time travelling phone booth in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure

Few comedy duos are as iconic as Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves). The pair had their first outing in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and it remains a brilliant buddy comedy full of late-80s charm.

Bill and Ted are destined to be rock stars, playing music that will positively influence the world. However, they risk getting split up before the band can even start, as they are about to fail history class. Authorities in the future cannot let that happen, so they send them a time-traveling phone booth so they can meet important figures throughout history with a personal touch.

The movie's premise is as outlandish as it sounds, as Bill and Ted decide to bring people from the past into San Dimas, 1989, for their presentation. Their task also gets much more complicated when the historical figures go on adventure in the present day themselves.

2 Beavis And Butt-Head Do America (1996)

Beavis And Butt-Head falling out of a moving car in beavis and butt-head Do America

Beavis and Butt-Head Do America may be an animated movie, but it leans heavily into toilet humor and absurd situations similar to Dumb and Dumber. In many ways, the movie feels like an extended episode of the show. Beavis and Butt-Head wake up to discover someone has stolen their TV, and they embark on a quest to get it back.

Events quickly go off the rails when Beavis and Butt-Head get involved with a pair of criminals. They convince the boys to take a trip across the US, not realizing they are carrying something so dangerous that even the FBI is looking for it.

Beavis and Butt-Head Do America has a story as ridiculous as you'd expect from the famous duo. The movie is overflowing with crude humor, and even features some incredible rock music from bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and AC/DC.

1 Me, Myself, & Irene (2000)

Me, Myself, & Irene

Me, Myself, & Irene is a dark comedy starring Jim Carrey as Charlie. He's a police officer and a genuinely nice guy with dissociative identity disorder. Charlie is tasked with keeping Irene (Renée Zellweger) safe from her ex-boyfriend, but forgets to take his medication along for the assignment.

Charlie prefers to avoid confrontation, but his other identity, Hank, is the polar opposite. Hank is confident, quick to temper, and acts like a tough guy. Unfortunately for Charlie, Hank also appears whenever he wants, ready to intervene at the most chaotic moments possible.

Me, Myself, & Irene is an easy recommendation for Dumb and Dumber fans. It's a treat to watch Carrey effortlessly switch between Charlie and Hank, and he has surprisingly strong chemistry with Zellweger.
