Reassuring Malen update for Roma: ‘Injury not too bad’

Roma striker Donyell Malen is out of the Netherlands squad due to injury, but coach Xavi assures it’s ‘not too bad’ after a great start to the season.
The centre-forward had been called up for the Nations League fixtures, as the Oranje are in the same group as Germany, Serbia and Greece.
Last night, it was confirmed that both Malen and Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert have pulled out, replaced by Guus Til and Mexx Meerdink.
This raised concerns among the Giallorossi fans, who have been so heavily reliant on Malen so far this season thanks to his six goals in five Serie A appearances.
“Malen left the field with an injury during the match between Roma and Inter on Saturday,” explained coach Xavi in his press conference.
“It’s a pity, because Donyell is in splendid form, but it happened at the last moment, much like with Kluivert. That’s football, you have to adapt.”
When pressed on what this injury entailed, the Netherlands manager did not seem concerned.
“I believe Donyell is ok, it’s not too bad. I don’t know how long it will take to recover.”
According to the Corriere dello Sport, the problem is specifically in Malen’s right knee, but is believed to be nothing more than fatigue.
Wesley also had to withdraw from the Brazil side due to a muscular issue, the same for Bryan Cristante and the Italy squad.
For those two and Malen, Roma are expected to have them back in regular training during the break for international duty.
