The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, with work scheduled to commence on Monday, October 19, 2026.

The rehabilitation will cover the stretch from Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre to Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ, with motorists advised to use alternative routes to minimise traffic congestion during the project.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

According to the advisory, a contraflow arrangement will be introduced on the Lagos-bound side of the road, from Samuel Manuwa to Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre, while work is carried out on the other lane.

The government also outlined alternative routes for motorists travelling from Bonny Camp, Falomo, Eko Hotel and other adjoining areas.

Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp or Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.

They can then connect to the expressway through School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.

For motorists travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street, the advisory directs them to pass through IMB and connect to the Coastal Road entrance through Adetokunbo Ademola Street, towards Eko Hotel Roundabout. From there, they can proceed through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Motorists departing from Bonny Camp have also been advised to use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis towards Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street, en route to Black Diamond School Corner.

The advisory further stated that motorists travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre would be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.

Those exiting through the 1004 gate, alongside other road users along the route, would be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before continuing through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.

Motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi have been advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and proceed towards the ramp bridge.

Osiyemi said the Lagos State Government would deploy officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to manage traffic and minimise disruptions during the rehabilitation.

“As preliminary works of the project commences at VGC, the State Government will deploy Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to coordinate vehicle movement, reduce congestion and minimize inconvenience,” the advisory stated.

The commissioner urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the commencement of the project and comply with traffic management arrangements.

“To this end, motorists are implored to plan their movement ahead, obey traffic officials, and cooperate with the interventions put in place to ease traffic,” the statement added.
