Lane Kiffin hits Death Valley with Shaq, Paul Skenes, Angel Reese and, naturally, Kevin Costner

Translate

LSU is gearing up for a huge game against Alabama, and head coach Lane Kiffin — who I think we can comfortably say is the PT Barnum of college football — called in some serious firepower to join him as he walked off the bus and into Tiger Stadium.

On Saturday, he was joined by LSU royalty in NBA great Shaquille O'Neal, Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes and WNBA star Angel Reese.

Oh, and Kevin Costner was there too.

Now, Shaq, Skenes and Reese are obvious choices, as they all had incredibly successful careers in the LSU athletic program, while Costner's LSU connection is unclear.

But does he even need one? He’s the man! I mean, he’s so cool. He was playing "Angry Birds" or something on his phone while walking into the stadium.

I think we can all agree that Costner is in that elite group of actors that, if you can get them to show up, you do it just because it's a flex.

Like, if you were going out to dinner with buddies and one friend goes, "I think Kevin can make it," and you go, "Hart?" then he says, "No, Costner," one friend is getting voted off the island, "Survivor"-style, to make room.

Who cares that you played high school baseball together? It's Costner! Go eat at McDonald's, and we'll call you when we're done with dinner... if Costner is cool with it.

I’d put Sly Stallone in that club along with Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger and maybe Tom Cruise, so long as we keep the conversation centered on "Top Gun" or Cruise doing his own stunts, not Thetan levels.

Anyway, that is to say that Kiffin is pulling out all the stops ahead of the game that LSU needs to win to seriously bolster their case for the College Football Playoff.

And if they can get Costner to agree to show up to their games should they get the nod from the CFP committee, that will probably help them as well.
