Serie A | Roma 3-0 Sassuolo: Aquilani comfortably swept aside

Roma made short work of sorry Sassuolo with Mario Hermoso, an own goal and Rodrigo Mora, inflicting a fifth consecutive defeat on Alberto Aquilani’s side.
The Giallorossi were still smarting after fumbling a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Manchester United midweek, suffering new injuries to Pierluigi Gollini, Gianluca Mancini and Devyne Rensch, with Paulo Dybala, Mile Svilar and Lorenzo Pellegrini still out, but Manu Koné was back for the first time since his thigh injury on October 14.
Sassuolo lost four on the bounce under coach Alberto Aquilani, facing his former club for the first time here, missing Domenico Berardi, Cristian Volpato, Daniel Boloca, Ismael Koné and Fedde Leysen, so they switched to 3-5-2.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Third-choice goalkeeper Devis Vasquez had to get down and fingertip a Nemanja Matic angled drive round the far post in the opening minutes, while Duje Caleta-Car needed a goal-line clearance on the Leonardo Balerdi looping header from a Rodrigo Mora corner kick routine.
Mora’s deflected effort skimmed the crossbar, but Roma broke the deadlock when Mario Hermoso surged forward and tried to set up Donyell Malen, but as it came back to him following the exchange of passes, he fired it into the roof of the net himself from 14 yards.

Malen was involved in the second goal moments later, but his angled drive was probably going off target before the double deflection off Jay Idzes and Sebastian Walukiewicz to wrong-foot Muric.
Leonardo Balerdi also tested Muric after running into the box, as did Matias Soulé, but straight after the restart Roma made a comical mess of a huge opportunity.
Soulé sprung the offside trap to go clear and dribbled around Muric, but instead of scoring into an empty net, he tried to roll it across for Malen, whose positioning was all wrong because he wasn’t expecting the pass.

Malen did test Muric when sent through by Hermoso, and the third goal finally arrived when Mora completed a give and go with Malen to drill through Caleta-Car’s legs into the far bottom corner with his right foot.
Malen again failed to make the most of a situation after dribbling around Muric, as Caleta-Car was there to clean up in front of the open goal, while Niccolò Pisilli also stung the goalkeeper’s gloves at the near post, as it could’ve been far more than three goals.
