Kalonzo Musyoka Heckled as Sifuna Supporters Disrupt Linda Mwananchi Launch Speech

Translate

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka was forced to interrupt his speech after supporters of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna heckled him during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

Kalonzo was among several opposition leaders invited to the event, which also brought together Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Why Sifuna’s supporters heckled Kalonzo

The disruption began after Kalonzo questioned the description of Sifuna as a presidential candidate, insisting that the senator had not yet formally declared his bid.

Wamalwa had earlier referred to Sifuna as a presidential candidate, prompting Kalonzo to explain what he described as the legal position.

“Eugene has declared you a presidential candidate. But let me tell you legally because you are a lawyer. You have to wait for the 13th of November. And I hope you will invite us again. And from then is where we will talk with a fellow presidential candidate. For now he is still a party leader,” Kalonzo said.

His remarks were met with loud boos and protests from sections of the crowd, with some supporters chanting Sifuna’s name as the Wiper leader struggled to continue.

Kalonzo asks whether he should leave

Visibly frustrated by the interruptions, Kalonzo paused his address and challenged the audience to indicate whether they wanted him to continue speaking.

“Do you want me to speak? Or should I leave?” he asked.

Sifuna was forced to intervene, calling on his supporters to calm down and allow Kalonzo to complete his speech.

The Wiper leader eventually left the stage but was later ushered back after Gachagua concluded his address.
