Govt inks joint decree to boost women's empowerment, child protection

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government on Monday inked the Joint Ministerial Decree on Indonesia Shared Spaces (RBI), a move aimed at strengthening women's empowerment and child protection across regions.

The decree was signed by Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, along with Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi and Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Minister Yandri Susanto, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Jakarta.

Tito underscored that issues surrounding the protection of women and children are international concerns, including for the United Nations.

"Across various documents, as well as in the vision, mission, and programs of President Prabowo, Indonesia emphasizes and prioritizes the protection of women and children," he added.

According to him, the decree can serve as a reference for regional governments in designing women and child protection programs in their respective areas.

He assured that his ministry is ready to oversee the allocation of funding for RBI through the 2027 regional budget and other sources in accordance with regulations.

"This will yield positive results not only for the central government, but also for regional heads," he said.

The minister emphasized that the signing aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to women and children.

The signing also marks the implementation of the government's fourth Asta Cita vision, strengthening human resource development, science, technology, education, health, sports achievements, gender equality, and the empowerment of women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi noted that RBI serves as a movement and collaborative platform designed to integrate existing programs, potential, resources, services, and key actors.

Through RBI, initiatives that previously operated separately can reinforce one another to deliver a greater impact for women, children, families, and local communities.

Arifah expressed hope that local governments, including village governments, can drive the program implementation.

"We hope RBI can be integrated into local development policies and planning, particularly at the village level," she said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto said the decree aims to position women as active agents of development in villages.

He noted that the newly signed decree will provide significant momentum for collective action involving both village and regional governments.

"Through this collective effort, we can empower all Indonesian women and protect Indonesian children," Yandri said.
