Michael B. Jordan's New Prime Video Fantasy Series Will Look Huge Next To Game Of Thrones

Before Screen Rant, he was a Senior Writer for The Cinemaholic, covering everything from anime to television, from reality TV to movies.
After high school, he was on his way to become a Civil Engineer. However, he soon realized that writing was his true calling. As a result, he took a leap and never looked back.
One of Prime Video's most exciting fantasy adaptations, which has Michael B. Jordan as a producer, is already looking bigger than Game of Thrones. It has been over a decade since Game of Thrones' premiered on HBO. Still, the fantasy show remains the standard for every new addition to the genre. It experienced some major hiccups towards the end, but its legacy lingers.
Owing to this, any new fantasy show that even has the potential to match Game of Thrones deserves to be hyped. One upcoming fantasy show, Fourth Wing, could become even bigger than Game of Thrones in more ways than one if it truly honors its source material. Based on Rebecca Yarros' book of the same name, the series already seems to have a lot going in its favor.
The original book has a massive fanbase and was a sensation on BookTok. Even the original author, Rebecca Yarros, is directly involved with the series as an executive producer and has expressed her excitement towards the show's early drafts. From a storytelling standpoint as well, Fourth Wing just feels tailor-made for the small screen, although it will require a massive CGI budget.
Fourth Wing Will Feature Scenes With LOTS Of Dragons
In Game of Thrones, dragons were incredibly rare, and the series barely featured three of them throughout its runtime. There were about 20 adult and adolescent dragons alive in all of Westeros at the peak of Targaryen. However, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion were the only three left throughout the main show's long timeline.
In terms of description, the few dragons in Game of Thrones might seem more mythical than the ones in Fourth Wing. However, when the sheer volume of the dragon characters is compared, Fourth Wing takes a massive lead. The Rider’s Quadrant at the central Basgiath War College in the series alone brings out close to 100 dragons every single year just for Threshing.
Hundreds more are active in independent dens and at the borders. Across Navarre and the continent, there could even be a population of more than a thousand dragons, with each having a unique set of magical abilities called singets that they share with their human bonds.
Another difference between the dragons in both franchises is that Game of Thrones primarily treats dragons as solitary and wild creatures who roam free. In Fourth Wing, they have an organized society called The Empyrean where they are separated by everything from their den to their distinct breeds.
Fourth Wing's dragons are also sentient in the sense that they are highly intelligent and can even telepathically communicate with their human riders. They have their own culture and philosophies and even display the ability to be incredibly sarcastic and deeply emotional.
How Many Dragons Fourth Wing Has Compared To House Of The Dragon
When exact numbers are compared, House of the Dragon does not even come close to featuring as many dragons as Fourth Wing. Fourth Wing shows how more than 100 dragons are "recruited" each year at the Basgiath War College for Threshing, where they choose from new first-year cadets. Many of these "bonded" dragons eventually end up serving with their respective cadets in different locations.
At the same time, there are also many "unbonded" dragons that live in the Vale, taking their total population well into the hundreds or thousands. Even before the "Dance of the Dragons," there were barely about 20 to 30 adult and adolescent dragons in all of Westeros when house members had their pick of hatchlings.
Their population declined further in the Game of Thrones franchise because of the civil war, leaving them on the verge of extinction until Daenerys hatched her three eggs. Owing to this, it seems fair to say that when it comes to portraying dragons, Fourth Wing is on another level compared to Game of Thrones. Hopefully, its upcoming Prime Video adaptation will do justice to the scale and majesty of its diverse dragon characters.
