Dexter: Resurrection Season 2’s New Frank Lundy & Trinity-esque Serial Killer Story Teased By Stars

Translate

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Dexter: Resurrection season 2.EXCLUSIVE: Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is returning to its roots.

The Dexter franchise began with the release of Jeff Lindsay's 2004 novel titled Darkly Dreaming Dexter and then evolved into a major television universe centered on the vigilante serial killer who works as a forensic blood-spatter analyst. The original series ran for eight seasons and 96 episodes until its divisive conclusion in 2013. 18 years later, Dexter: New Blood revived the franchise, leading to more mayhem and eventually Dexter: Resurrection.

Throughout the franchise, there have been many sickening serial killers haunting Miami and now New York City. One of the biggest and baddest killers was shown during the flagship series and was named the Trinity Killer, later revealed to be Arthur Mitchell (played by John Lithgow). In Dexter season 4, the character was relentlessly pursued by many, including Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) and Special Agent Frank Lundy (played by Keith Carradine). In Dexter: Resurrection season 2, a new dynamic could draw some similarities to Lundy's pursuit of the Trinity Killer.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Kadia Saraf, who is portraying Claudette Wallace, and Dominic Fumusa, who portrays Detective Melvin Oliva, discussed the upcoming season of Resurrection. That includes the all-important dynamics as Dexter tries to keep New York City clean and hunt serial killers who have escaped justice, but also the introduction of the New York Ripper (played by Brian Cox) and Claudette's obsessive desire to hunt the infamous serial killer down.

ScreenRant: Season 2 throws even bigger serial killer cases into the mix, including the long-rumored New York Ripper. How are the stakes elevated for you?

Kadia Saraf: It comes at us all at once and really fast. So, it's not one case at a time. It feels like everything is happening, and we need to catch them fast to make sure our city is safe.

And also there's one-upping. There's always a one-upping! The killer in this case is taking advantage of our methods [to use them] against us. So, we have to up the ante as well this season, by a lot.

Dominic Fumusa: And I would add that the New York Ripper is a case that Claudette has been obsessed with for most of her career.

Kadia Saraf: Oh, yeah. That too!

Dominic Fumusa: That's adding to the stakes big time. It is so thrilling to watch, because it's such a personal endeavor that's going on there.

The New York Ripper will be first introduced in Dexter: Resurrection season 2 after being discussed throughout the first season of the spinoff series. The serial killer's real name was revealed to be Don Framt, an elderly, retired, and wheelchair-bound man who stopped actively killing and instead continues to sadistically torment his victims' families through untraceable phone calls.

Due to Dexter accessing Leon Prater's vault filled with serial killer memorabilia, the fan-favorite vigilante is able to actively track down the infamous character. There are comparisons to be made with Wallace and Lundy both spending their careers hunting such a major killer and not landing anything concrete.

Lundy was first introduced in Dexter season 2 while trying to hunt down the Bay Harbor Butcher, and later returned in season 4 after retiring from the FBI, but still continues to obsess over his major open case of the Trinity Killer, who has recently resurfaced in Miami. Sadly, Lundy was shot and killed before he was able to get that resolution.

Wallace has also spent her career obsessing over the New York Ripper and is haunted by the cold case with so many questions left unanswered. Due to Dexter finally being able to unmask the sadistic killer, perhaps Wallace can succeed where Lundy sadly failed, giving the character a well-deserved arc. However, Dexter is not known to leave a serial killer alive for long and perhaps Cox's character will end up in his own Kill Room.

Dexter: Resurrection season 2 will arrive on Paramount+ on October 30.
