Man found dead near river in Bulacan
CALUMPIT, Bulacan — The body of a man who had been missing for two days after leaping into a river near his house was located on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Rey Lequin, a resident of Sto. Niño village in Calumpit town, had reportedly jumped into a river near their house at around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, according to Enriquito Del Rosario, Calumpit municipal disaster risk reduction management officer.
Lequin was having a heated argument with his wife. Before the argument, he may have also been intoxicated after a round of drinks with friends, Del Rosario told Inquirer.

As soon as Lequin plunged into the river, his brother-in-law attempted a rescue but was pulled back by neighbors due to the strong river current.
A family member tried to get Lequin to grab hold of a long wooden pole and pull himself toward the riverbank, but the victim was carried away by the river.
At around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, residents of Barangay Sta. Elena in the adjacent town of Hagonoy found Lequin’s remains floating on that side of the riverbank.
