Asian Games 2026: TN CM Vijay’s rewards for Vithya Ramraj touch Rs. 1.55 crore after relay gold

Vithya Ramraj’s stellar performances in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya have brought India three medals.

The Tamil Nadu runner first ran the crucial anchor leg of the mixed 4x400m relay to help India win silver before a sensational national record-breaking run in the women’s 400m hurdles to take bronze.

The 28-year-old shattered India’s oldest track record by beating PT Usha’s 55.42 seconds in the 400m hurdles in Nagoya, finally clocking 54.75 seconds after a rain-soaked, nerve-wracking race that ended with her on the podium.

The Tamil Nadu Government has announced cash rewards worth Rs. 75 Lakh for gold medal winners, Rs 50 Lakh for silver medallists and Rs. 30 Lakh for bronze medallists from the state in the ongoing Asian Games.

TN Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay already announced rewards of Rs. 50 Lakh and Rs. 30 Lakh each for her silver and bronze medal exploits before announcing a Rs. 75 Lakh reward for her relay gold medal.

In 2023, she received Rs. 80 Lakh for winning three medals (two silver and one bronze) in Hangzhou. The Government had alloted a reward of Rs. 30 Lakh for silver and Rs. 20 Lakh for bronze.
