What Is John Cena Classic? WWE Legend Announces New Event In His Return To Raw

John Cena has finally put a date on his long-awaited event. The John Cena Classic will air as a special edition of Monday Night Raw on December 14 from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Cena revealed the plans on the November 2 show in Brooklyn, New York, where he also unveiled a new championship and named the first competitor. The announcement came six months after he first teased the idea at Backlash. Until now, fans had almost nothing to go on. Now they have a schedule and a belt, and one big name is already in.

What Is The John Cena Classic And Where Will It Take Place?

John Cena first mentioned the John Cena Classic in May at Backlash. He described a showcase with stars from WWE's top brands chasing a new title, with fans voting on the champion. Wrestlers who lose their matches could still win the whole thing. Cena told Sports Illustrated he would call it “WWE's All-Star Game.”

On Raw, the 17-time world champion spoke to the Barclays Center crowd and split his news into parts. The date came first. Raw will run twice on December 14. One show comes from Perth, Australia. The second, the Classic itself, will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.

Then came the prize. Cena pulled the cover off a belt that looks a lot like his old spinner title, though this one does not spin. He tied it to his own name and values. “I have my heart and soul in this event,” Cena said. Fans who signed up for Club WWE will have a say in the outcome, but he did not explain the format.

Who Is The First Entrant In The John Cena Classic?

Cody Rhodes is the first name in. Cena and Rhodes spent much of 2025 as rivals. Cena beat him at WrestleMania 41 for a record 17th world title, and Rhodes took it back at SummerSlam. Cena used the moment to take back an earlier comment. He had said Rhodes could not handle life as “QB1.” He now says he was wrong.

“This event is everything you are,” Cena said. “Everything you stand for. I love you, bud. And I'm so glad to officially invite you to the John Cena Classic.”

Rhodes barely had time to respond. Randy Orton's music hit, and the Viper walked out to remind him of their Last Man Standing match at Crown Jewel this Saturday.

More names are coming. Cena plans to appear on NXT this week, then on Raw, SmackDown and at Survivor Series in Houston, Texas, to reveal more entrants. NXT talent is expected to be in the field, since the show pairs current stars with the next wave.
