  • Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) and the Qatar Investment Authority have agreed to invest £2.5B ($3.4B) in a data center project developed in partnership with UK power generator Drax Group Plc (DRXGF).
  • The initial phase, which could be operational by the first quarter of 2028, would produce up to 100 megawatts using an existing grid connection that Drax has at its power station in the north of England, according to a statement on Tuesday.
  • The partnership will focus on the development of a data center that will utilise Drax Power Station’s 4 GW of grid access and 2.6 GW of dispatchable generation capacity.
  • The first phase, using power directly from the grid, is targeting commercial operations from early 2028.
