PPP calls for respect for Najib house arrest decision

KUALA LUMPUR: The People's Progressive Party (PPP) urged all parties to respect the decision granting former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak conditional house arrest.

Its president, Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan, said the outcome should be accepted as it was made through the constitutional Pardons Board process.

"The People's Progressive Party calls on all parties to respect and accept the decision of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia," he said in a statement yesterday.

Najib was granted house arrest for the remainder of his sentence on condition that he pays the RM50 million fine imposed following his conviction in the SRC International case.

The Federal Territories Pardons Board said in a statement that Najib must comply with all conditions imposed for him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

It said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to the conditional pardon.

Loga Bala also called on all parties not to politicise the matter for personal or political gain.

"Differences of opinion are part of a democratic society, but they should be expressed responsibly and with respect for the Federal Constitution and the institutions of the country," he said.

Loga Bala said the party also expressed its appreciation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for considering Najib's application.

"Malaysia must continue to uphold the rule of law, constitutional institutions and respect for the Federal Constitution," he added.
