Aaron Rodgers' expected retirement has left the Pittsburgh Steelers looking for answers at quarterback, but their scouting trip offered more questions than solutions. Assistant general manager Andy Weidl reportedly attended the Texas Longhorns' 34-27 win over the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday to watch Arch Manning and Trinidad Chambliss. Both quarterbacks had moments that caught the eye, but neither delivered a clean performance. According to 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi, Pittsburgh has already shown early interest in Chambliss, worth watching as the team prepares for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Weidl's presence in Austin came at a time when Pittsburgh needed to assess its options other than Rodgers
“Steelers assistant GM Andy Weidl. Who makes the Steelers draft board was in Austin last Saturday. On a scouting mission. Watching Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss and Texas QB Arch Manning," Filipponi wrote on X.

Chambliss had already attracted attention in Pittsburgh. In an October 22 mailbag for The Athletic, Steelers reporter Mike DeFabo identified the Ole Miss senior as a prospect worth tracking, pointing to the team's preference for quarterbacks with more college experience.
"They seem to like more experienced college QBs, which makes Ole Miss senior Trinidad Chambliss a player to circle, even this early in the process," DeFabo wrote.
The Steelers have not settled on their next starter, despite investing draft picks in Will Howard and Drew Allar over the past two years. Howard arrived in the sixth round in 2025, while Pittsburgh selected Allar with the 76th overall pick in the third round this year. Neither has established himself as Rodgers' successor.
With Pittsburgh sitting at 5-2 after three straight wins, its draft position could make landing a highly rated quarterback harder if the team keeps winning.
Arch Manning and Trinidad Chambliss struggle under pressure
Saturday's game gave Pittsburgh plenty to review. Manning completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions. He added two rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, as Texas recovered after surrendering a 21-point lead.
Chambliss finished with 250 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions on 25-of-52 passing. His second-half comeback helped Ole Miss erase Texas' advantage before the Longhorns pulled away.
NFL draft analysts Dane Brugler and Nick Baumgardner offered a mixed assessment of Manning's performance. Brugler praised his resilience but noted his struggles with turnovers, while Baumgardner questioned his decision-making and ability to read the field consistently.
Chambliss had a difficult first half before improving after the break. However, his three interceptions raised questions about his performance against stronger opposition.
