Trade Ministry reaffirms protection for labor-intensive industries

Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Trade has assured market protection and facilitation for local labor-intensive industries, particularly textiles and footwear.

Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri emphasized that the ministry continues to encourage and support local labor-intensive sectors, noting that footwear and textiles remain core export-oriented commodities for Indonesia.

"The Trade Ministry is committed to assisting and ensuring market stability so local manufacturers can sell their products both domestically and abroad through our assistance programs," Dyah said during a visit to a shoe factory in Bandung, West Java, on Monday.

She highlighted protective measures for domestic products, such as imposing additional anti-dumping duties on imported goods sold below their fair market value in the country of origin.

"In principle, we always take action. If anything is proven to disrupt our domestic market, we will follow up, and the proper mechanisms remain ongoing," she remarked.

Additionally, to support local goods, Dyah stated that the ministry encourages compliance with the minimum 25 percent Domestic Component Level (TKDN), which is expected to generate a positive multiplier effect for local communities.

"The ministry continues to support so that our production can remain competitive and to secure our market," she said.

These protection measures align with updated trade policies under Government Regulation No. 3 of 2026, which clearly outlines the roles of the Finance Ministry's customs authority and the Trade Ministry.

Customs holds jurisdiction over goods within customs areas, while the Trade Ministry oversees trade once goods enter the domestic distribution network. This division is expected to foster more effective coordination and prevent overlapping authority between institutions.
