Loren Legarda extended medical leave to October 9 -- Senate Secretary Bantug

Senator Loren Legarda has extended her medical leave to October 9, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. said Monday.

Bantug said Legarda will be on leave from September 21 to 23; September 28 to October 2; and October 5 to 9.

Legarda has been on medical leave beginning August 3. The last time she was seen at the Senate was on July 29, during the plenary session.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri earlier said Legarda is receiving medical treatment for a serious lung illness but could not give a definite date for her return to the Senate.

He added his colleague wants to return to the Philippines as soon as possible but still needs to complete medical tests.

Senator Panfilo Lacson, meanwhile, said Legarda sought moral support from her fellow senators.

“Nagkausap kami ni Senator Loren. Twice na kaming nagkakausap. Wala naman siyang nabanggit kung siya ay babalik o hindi,” Lacson told Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

(Legarda and I talked twice. She has not mentioned whether she will return to the country or not.)

“Ang appeal niya sa amin, bilang kasamahan sa Senado, parang humingi lang siya ng moral support,” he added.

(Her appeal to us, as her fellow senators, was simply for moral support.)

Legarda and her son Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste are facing complaints for plunder and graft in connection with the alleged failure of the latter’s renewable energy firm to provide solar power, as mandated in its congressional franchise.—Sandra Aguinaldo/AOL, GMA News
