‘Shame on petty men’: Shashi Tharoor slams Centre’s silence Indian-origin Navanethem 'Navi' Pillay's Nobel win

Tharoor drew attention to Navi Pillay's ancestral roots

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday criticised the Union government for not congratulating this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, a South African jurist of Indian origin. The Thiruvananthapuram MP took to social media to question the government’s silence six days after Pillay won the award.“It’s been six days since this remarkable woman of Indian origin (see her story, attached) won the #NobelPeacePrize. And the Government of India, her ancestral homeland, hasn’t so much as congratulated her?! Shame on the petty men who have made such a deplorable decision,” Tharoor wrote on X.

Without naming any leader from the ruling-BJP, Tharoor also drew attention to Pillay’s ancestral roots in Tamil Nadu.Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, a jurist at the International Court of Justice, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote peace and international law by ensuring that war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are prosecuted.
