ASIAN GAMES: Eel-powered Japanese child dominates
Japan’s 11-year-old e-sports whizz-kid Yuki Kurihara yesterday crushed the competition on his debut at the Asian Games, beating opponents almost three times his age.
The bespectacled primary-school student, who says he eats eel to prepare for contests, is the youngest athlete at the Games. He is also host country Japan’s youngest athlete in Asian Games history.
He competes in Puyo Puyo Champions, a puzzle game in which players try to clear their screen of colored blobs by lining them up and popping them.

Kurihara beat all four opponents he faced to top Group A in Nagoya, rounding off his morning’s work with a 3-0 win over 28-year-old Yu Wing Lim of Hong Kong.
Kurihara’s performances thrilled Japanese fans following his progress online.
“He’s too cute,” one person wrote on social media.
“He’s unstoppable,” another wrote.
Kurihara tomorrow is to attempt to win gold to make more history.
Taiwan’s Kuo Tzu-ang also sailed through his Puyo Puyo Champions group at the Aichi Sky Expo E-sport Substage.
He defeated Thailand’s Tanarak Wongkitikun 3-0, Mongolia’s Munkhzorig Ganbold 3-1, India’s Paritosh 3-0 and Singapore’s Koh Mun June Justin 3-1 to top Group B.
