Jean-Philippe Mateta is coming off a great 2025/26 season but has had a rough start to this season. The tough start got worse last weekend, when the Crystal Palace striker slid into the legs of Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.

He was straight away shown a yellow card by referee Michael Oliver but eventually that was upgraded to a red card following a VAR review.

Palace appealed to the Football Association (FA) to reduce or remove the three-match ban; however, the FA has rejected the appeal.

This means the French striker will now miss Palace’s matches against Liverpool, Coventry City and Hull City.

“An independent regulatory commission has dismissed claims of both wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment in relation to Jean-Philippe Mateta,” said the FA.
