Jigawa resolves NECO results delay, blames bank glitch

The Jigawa State Government has attributed the delay in the release of National Examinations Council results for students in public schools in the state to a bank transaction glitch.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Chamo, explained on Tuesday that funds deposited by the government to NECO for the examinations had bounced back due to the transaction problem, delaying the students’ access to their results after the national release.

Recall that the 2026 NECO results were released on Wednesday, September 24, 2026, by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi.

Findings by The PUNCH in Jigawa State, however, showed that students in public schools across the state could not access their results days after the release.

Some students, parents and guardians in Dutse, Hadejia and Gumel, who spoke with The PUNCH, lamented the delay, which they said had caused anxiety.

A student of Government Day Secondary School, Dutse, Ashiru Sani, said, “Since last Thursday when NECO released the results, we have been trying to check ours, but it is not coming up. We are worried because our mates in private schools have seen theirs.”

Similarly, a parent in Takur-site, Malam Umar Garba, told The PUNCH that, “My two children wrote NECO in a public school. Up till now, we have not seen their results. The government should come out and explain what is happening.”

Another guardian, Mrs Fatima Ali of Gida Dubu quarters in Dutse, said, “We are appealing to the state government to intervene quickly. These children need their results for admission.”

Checks by The PUNCH confirmed that the results of public school students had finally been released.

When contacted on Tuesday, Prof Chamo clarified that the delay was caused by a bank transaction glitch, adding that the funds deposited by the government to NECO bounced back.

“The delay is not intentional. The funds we deposited to NECO bounced back due to bank transaction issues,” the commissioner said.

He explained that, “Immediately we noticed the transaction failed, we took immediate steps to rectify it and reprocess the payment.”

According to him, the situation had been normalised, adding that NECO had confirmed receipt of the payment.

The commissioner assured that students could check their results on the NECO portal from Tuesday evening.

“By 6 pm today, all our students in public schools will be able to check their results on the NECO portal without any hitch,” he said.

He appealed to parents, guardians and students to remain calm, assuring that the government remained committed to education.

“No student will be left behind. The government of Governor Umar Namadi has paid all fees, and we have resolved all issues with NECO,” Prof Chamo added.
