Kerinci Seblat closes Mount Kerinci trails over wildfire risk
Kerinci, Jambi (ANTARA) - The Kerinci Seblat National Park authority has temporarily closed all Mount Kerinci hiking trails to help prevent forest and land fires.
The closure follows an announcement by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni on Monday (August 31), acting park head Delfi Andra said here Tuesday.
“Kerinci Seblat National Park will close all hiking trails via Kerinci and South Solok,” he said, adding that the closure takes effect September 1, 2026, with an official notice currently being prepared.
He urged residents, particularly those living near hiking trails and the national park, to help protect the area from fires.
“We urge the public not to burn trash or other materials that could potentially cause forest and land fires,” he said.
The forestry minister previously ordered the temporary closure of hiking trails at nine national parks across Indonesia.
The nine parks are Bromo Tengger Semeru, Kerinci Seblat, Mount Ciremai, Tambora, Manusela, Bukit Baka Bukit Raya, Mount Gede Pangrango, Mount Leuser and Lorentz, along designated routes.
Limited hiking remains available at Mount Rinjani, Mount Merbabu, Hyang Highlands Wildlife Reserve (Argopuro) and Mount Halimun Salak national parks.
