Wamena (ANTARA) - The Jayawijaya District Administration in Papua Pegunungan Province is holding the 2026 Wamena Food Festival to promote the growth of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Head of Jayawijaya District Atenius Murip said in Wamena on Friday that the food festival would help stimulate the growth of local MSMEs.

"The regional government appreciates the organizers for helping revitalize MSMEs in Jayawijaya District and supporting their development," Murip said during the opening of the festival organized by Hipere Entertainment.

The festival will run from October 30 to November 8, 2026, with 31 MSMEs participating in the event.

According to Murip, the festival is being held for the first time in the district.

"It is remarkable, and we appreciate the initiative because this is the first time such an event has been held here. We are confident that the positive initiatives and creative activities developed in Wamena through MSMEs will create new economic opportunities for business owners," he said.

Additionally, the MSME Coordinator for the 2026 Wamena Food Week, Fatmawati, said the event is intended to provide local MSMEs with a platform to market their products.

"We recognize that young people in Wamena have remarkable abilities and talents, but they need more platforms to express their creativity," she said.

According to Fatmawati, many home-based MSMEs in Wamena still have to be developed and need to be promoted.

She expressed hope that the festival would allow MSMEs to market their products more effectively and gain wider recognition.
