Friends thrash Thar driver, he rams SUV into their cab in Gurgaon

GURGAON: A quarrel among four men in Sector 89 late on Friday night spilled onto the road when one of them allegedly used his Thar to repeatedly crash into a Rapido cab that two of his friends had boarded to leave the spot.

The impact deployed both front airbags and badly damaged the cab, but the three persons inside it escaped unhurt.The four had arrived in the Delhi-registered Thar when an argument broke out and turned physical. Police said the two men then decided to leave and booked a Rapido cab. They were waiting by the roadside when it arrived.As the two were getting into the cab, their friend allegedly drove the Thar towards it and rammed the vehicle.

He then reversed the SUV, accelerated again and struck the cab several times. The repeated impacts badly damaged the cab's front and side before the Thar driver fled.A senior police officer confirmed that the four men had a fight inside the Thar. "Yes, a fight broke out between the four inside the SUV.The Thar driver was first beaten up by the two. While the two men were leaving, the Thar driver rammed his car into the cab.

Their identification is also yet to be established," he added.The cab driver and two passengers were inside when the SUV crashed into it. Despite the force of the collisions, none was injured.Passersby recorded the incident on their mobile phones, and circulated a video showing the Thar reversing and hitting the cab repeatedly.Witnesses told police the men appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. "We are verifying the circumstances, including the sequence of the quarrel and whether the driver was intoxicated at the time of the incident," the officer said.The cab driver approached Kherki Daula police station. Till late on Saturday evening, an FIR was yet to be registered.Cops said they would use the Thar's registration number to identify and trace those involved. "Efforts are underway to locate the youths involved in the incident. We are also examining the video footage recorded at the spot," the officer said.
