Hemang Badani As CSK Coach Gets Strong Objection Ahead Of IPL 2027: "MS Dhoni Is Enough"

There is a certain air of mystery and intrigue surrounding the next Chennai Super Kings coach. Over the last few seasons, Chennai's performance has not been great. The team last won the IPL in 2023. Since then, there has been inconsistency. In IPL 2026, CSK finished eighth. They have not qualified for the playoffs in the last three editions. Before the 2027 season, CSK parted ways with long-time coach Stephen Fleming, and the hunt for a new coach should end soon.

A report in The Indian Express said former captain MS Dhoni has advocated for an Indian-led support staff. In such a scenario, Hemang Badani has emerged as the frontrunner. He has IPL experience and also coaches Southern Brave in The Hundred and Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. Badani, who was earlier associated with Delhi Capitals, has enjoyed success in overseas leagues as well.

Dhoni also proposed that the new head coach should work exclusively with CSK.

1983 World Cup winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth has, however, said that Badani is not a good option.

"If Dhoni is preferring an Indian coach, then I would go for Chandrakant Pandit. He's a good guy and has won trophies. But CSK should go for an Indian option. Either the coach must have been a great international player or achieved big as a coach at the domestic or IPL level," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

"There is no way Hemang Badani should be CSK's head coach. He didn't do anything in DC. I don't know why CSK should go all-out for him. He is nothing special as a coach. When you have Dhoni, why do you even need someone else as coach? Dhoni himself is enough as head coach."

He added that CSK must take their time before deciding.

"It's fine that CSK are taking their time. There is no necessity to make the decision in a hurry. The auction will only be in December, so there's enough time. So they shouldn't rush it at all and should think calmly to make the right decision," said Srikkanth.
