Sarawak’s next legislative assembly sitting will be the last of current term, says state Speaker

KUCHING, Sept 22 — The coming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) will be the last one for this term, said Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

However, he said the dates of the coming DUN sitting have not been announced yet.

“As usual, I will call a press conference for the DUN,” he told reporters after the “Kenegaraan Aku Kasih Malaysia: Pimpinan Belia Negeri Sarawak” seminar here.

“As you all know, the date has been disclosed. Not from the secretary or from me, but from the Opposition — they said this is the date and so forth. So, I will call a press conference before the DUN,” said Asfia.

On September 10, The Borneo Post sighted a Sarawak Government Gazette stating that, pursuant to Standing Order 8(2) of the Standing Orders of the DUN Sarawak, the premier of Sarawak had determined that the sitting would be held from October 12 to 21, 2026.

The notification was dated September 10 and signed by the Secretary of the DUN Sarawak.

Asked whether any Bills, particularly important ones, would be tabled during the sitting, Asfia said his office had yet to receive any Bills from the state government.
