Serie A | Genoa 2-0 Juventus: Sluggish Old Lady collapse at Marassi

Genoa scored with two early counter-attacks and sent Juventus plunging back into crisis mode, as Kingsley Ehizibue and Tommaso Baldanzi punished the sluggish Old Lady.
The injury crisis at Juve showed no signs of calming down, with Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Manuel Locatelli, Nico Gonzalez, Zeki Celik, Francisco Conceicao, Jeff Ekhator and Kamil Grabara still out of action. After two games in a row with two centre-forwards, Nick Woltemade dropped to the bench to bring in Kerim Alajbegovic.
Genoa won their last two home fixtures against Fiorentina and Venezia. Samuel Wiafe and Kingsley Ehizibue shook off muscular issues, leaving only Lorenzo Venturino, Cody Drameh and Elias Havel on the treatment table.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Federico Gatti’s back-pass nearly caused big problems for Guglielmo Vicario, then Tommaso Baldanzi’s shot was deflected for a corner after a counter-attack.
Genoa had a series of corners and took the lead when Baldanzi pulled back from the left by-line, it went past everyone to find Kingsley Ehizibue at the back post, who scored despite the ill-advised Andrea Cambiaso attempted clearance.

Milutin Osmajic ran onto a long Justin Bijlow goal kick to go clear, but under pressure from Pierre Kalulu he could only hit the side-netting.
Juve did not heed that warning and conceded on a very similar move. This time Kalulu’s clumsy attempted clearance saw Vitinha sharper to steal the ball and set up Baldanzi for Genoa’s second goal.

It could’ve been 3-0 had the Morten Frendrup roll across on another counter-attack been closer to Osmajic at the back post.
Genoa were forced into a change, as Mikael Ellertsson caught his studs in the turf and felt too much pain, replaced by Mario Mitaj.
Juventus should’ve pulled one back on the stroke of half-time, but Kalulu turned wide with the inside of the boot from 12 yards on a Weston McKennie assist.
Nick Woltemade and Edon Zhegrova came on for the restart, but a heavy Kolo Muani first touch on the McKennie through ball saw his opportunity fall apart.

Instead, Vitinha blasted over after Zhegrova gave the ball away for a counter-attack, while Gleison Bremer’s glancing header flashed over from a corner kick at the other end.
Zhegrova rode a tackle and his strike from the edge of the area took a deflection to force a tricky Bijlow save, but Juventus rarely really looked like getting back into this game.
Only in added time did a touched-on free kick for Teun Koopmeiners take a deflection off Johan Vasquez to smash against the underside of the bar, but it did not cross the line.
