Tana River Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, are mourning the loss of their youngest daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.

Amal, aged eight, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi. In a statement issued by the family, they shared that Amal had faced continuous health challenges since birth and had received specialized medical care both in Kenya and abroad over the years. Despite her health struggles, her family remembered her fondly for the love, joy, and warmth she brought into their lives.

The news of her passing has drawn nationwide expressions of sympathy and support, led by President William Ruto. Expressing his grief in a statement on X, the President described the loss of a child as an immeasurable sorrow, offering prayers of comfort and peace to the family. People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua also shared a heartfelt message, commending the parents for their dedication throughout Amal’s long medical journey and offering her condolences.

Family members and well-wishers have gathered at the family home in Ngao Village, Tana River County, where funeral preparations are currently underway. Amal is scheduled to be laid to rest on Friday, September 18, 2026, at their family residence in Ngao Village.
