James Lynch had spent much of the season fighting for his place on the Chicago Bears roster. On Monday night, the defensive tackle gave his team a moment it desperately needed against the defending Super Bowl champions. With Seattle trying to get back into the contest, Lynch came up with an interception that turned a close fourth quarter into a comfortable finish. His first career pick arrived at a perfect time, helping Chicago walk away from Lumen Field with a 34-17 victory and a 6-2 record.
James Lynch stuns Seattle Seahawks with first career interception
The Seahawks had cut Chicago's advantage to 20-17 early in the fourth quarter after Sam Darnold found Cooper Kupp for a touchdown and Seattle added a two-point conversion. However, the Bears refused to let the home side carry that momentum for long.
Caleb Williams helped put some distance between the teams with a quick offensive response. A 39-yard catch and run from Kalif Raymond put Chicago in scoring position, allowing D'Andre Swift to find the end zone for the second time that night. The touchdown restored a 10-point lead.

Seattle needed another big possession, but its quarterback could not get past the Bears' defensive front. On third down, Austin Booker got his hand to Darnold's pass, sending the ball into the air. Lynch read the play, secured the loose ball and returned it 16 yards to the Seattle 6-yard line.
The interception gave Chicago an excellent scoring opportunity, and Swift took care of the rest with a five-yard touchdown run. With 4:41 remaining, the Bears had stretched their lead to 34-17.
Jeffery Simmons and Bears defense make life difficult for Seattle
Lynch's interception was the finishing touch on a defensive performance that had troubled Seattle throughout the night. The Bears had already made life difficult for Darnold, limiting the Seahawks to just three first downs across their opening five possessions. Seattle finished with only one successful conversion on 11 third-down attempts.
Jeffery Simmons played a major role in that effort during his Chicago debut. The Bears had acquired the defensive tackle from the Tennessee Titans just four days earlier, and he immediately made his presence felt with a first-quarter sack. He finished with six tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss and a pass defended, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Lynch's own journey made his contribution even more rewarding. Chicago signed him to a one-year, $1.3 million contract in March, but summer roster projections had him among the potential cuts. Instead, he became the player who delivered the game's decisive defensive play.
He credited Simmons' presence for creating opportunities across the defensive line. "He's a special player, and it's nice to have him on our side," Lynch said after the game.
