A convoy believed to be carrying former president Jacob Zuma was seen leaving the Netcare St Anne’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.
Zuma, 84, was admitted to the hospital on 6 October after falling ill during an MK Party campaign event in Msinga.
News24 understands that the former president has been discharged and will be taken to an undisclosed location for the next four days in order to continue recuperating after a severe health scare.
“The family will then take over,” said a highly placed source.
Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed that during Zuma’s hospital stay, he was under the care of the SANDF surgeon general.
His hospital stay of nearly two weeks was marked by conflicting accounts of his condition, with the MK Party insisting he was “as fit as a fiddle”, while family sources confirmed that his condition was serious.
The MK Party has already cancelled its final election rally, scheduled for Sunday, as questions mount over Zuma’s ability to lead the campaign ahead of the 4 November local government elections.
