Is Aaron Rodgers’ Final NFL Season Heading Toward A Defining Moment Against The Cleveland Browns?

Aaron Rodgers did not need a quiet flight home from Paris. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback threw a touchdown pass to Darnell Washington, climbed past Peyton Manning on the all-time list, and led his team to a 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints. Pittsburgh now sits at 5-2 and has won three straight. Rodgers, 42, has 540 career touchdown passes, with only Drew Brees and Tom Brady ahead of him. He also says this is his final season. So the next question is simple. Can the Steelers turn this run into an AFC North title?
Cam Heyward Explains Why Aaron Rodgers Still Matters To The Pittsburgh Steelers
Numbers tell part of the story. Rodgers has 1,699 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions this season. Those are solid, not spectacular. Yet the locker room keeps pointing to something the stat sheet misses.
Defensive lineman Cam Heyward put it plainly on The Rich Eisen Show.
"And so when he's checking plays, and he's making sure everybody's accountable, you feel as comfortable as you can," Heyward said. "You feel like he's going to lead you to the right destination just because he is prepared. He is a student of the game. A lot of times we talk about being a teacher to the young guys, but he's always trying to find things that are nuance and that work. And when you got a guy that can still throw as fast as he does and throw as long as he does, he's gonna put you in the right direction."
In Week 7, @AaronRodgers12 threw his 540th career passing touchdown, surpassing Peyton Manning (539) for the third-most in NFL history. Here's a look at the all-time passing touchdown leaders since 2000. https://t.co/lOxEbnjVGv

Think about what that means. A veteran who studies the next opponent right after the final whistle sets a standard for everyone around him. Heyward's defense then held New Orleans to 10 points, which gave Rodgers room to work.
Pittsburgh Steelers Vs. Cleveland Browns Could Decide The AFC North Race
Now comes the real test. The Steelers host the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 1, and both teams are 5-2. The winner takes sole possession of first place.
Rodgers has room to grow. ESPN ranked him 24th among qualified quarterbacks with a 49.8 adjusted QBR before this week. His completion rate sits at 61.6 percent. Those figures help explain why the front office may look for help at wide receiver before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
NFL insider Jason La Canfora has linked Pittsburgh to Ladd McConkey of the Los Angeles Chargers and Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Second-round pick Germie Bernard has impressed in the slot, so an outside target who can work the middle of the field would fit well.
Rodgers has made his plans clear. Asked if anyone could talk him into another season, he replied, "No, no, no." That gives this team one shot with him. Beating Cleveland would be a strong way to use it.
