JASIN, Oct 23 — Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh will remain Melaka chief minister should Barisan Nasional (BN) and its strategic partners win the state election next month, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The BN chairman, who is also deputy prime minister, said the confidence in Ab Rauf was based on his leadership track record and the capabilities he had demonstrated since serving as Umno executive secretary.

“Insya-Allah, with Datuk Rauf (Ab Rauf), what you ‘order’ is exactly what Melaka will get,” he said when launching the BN election machinery for the Jasin parliamentary constituency at Dewan Alamanda here last night.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka State Election, with nomination day on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.

BN won 21 of the 28 seats contested in the 2021 Melaka state polls, paving the way for the coalition to form the state government, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured five seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) two. — Bernama
