Woman hurt in flat fire suspected to have been caused by aromatherapy items
Hong Kong firefighters have rescued a 67-year-old woman from a flat in Tin Shui Wai after a blaze broke out, prompting about 100 people to flee.
A preliminary investigation suggested aromatherapy items ignited objects in the flat.
Police said officers were alerted at 5.39pm on Saturday after smoke was seen billowing from a flat at Locwood Court in the Kingswood Villas private estate.
Firefighters forced entry into the flat, where they found the woman, and extinguished the fire, police said.
The woman was unconscious and sent to Tuen Mun Hospital. She suffered burns to her hands and respiratory tract, according to the force.
Police said a preliminary investigation suggested that aromatherapy items accidentally ignited miscellaneous objects in the flat, causing the fire. There was no evidence at this stage to suggest any criminal element was involved, the force added.
