Indonesia bolsters fertilizer quality to boost competitiveness

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Industry Ministry is strengthening fertilizer standards, certification and workforce skills to improve product quality, support food security and boost the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers.

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said standards and quality assurance were essential to strengthening industrial resilience, particularly in the strategic fertilizer sector.

“Standardization and quality assurance go beyond regulatory compliance. They are vital to building market trust and strengthening national industry competitiveness at home and abroad,” Agus said here Sunday.

Pontianak’s Center for Industrial Standardization and Services (BSPJI) recently met fertilizer producer PT Garuda Mas Borneo to accelerate product certification and strengthen industrial support.

The meeting focused on cooperation to improve fertilizer quality, including Indonesian National Standards (SNI), certification procedures, laboratory testing and technical workforce training.

Emmy Suryandari, head of the ministry’s Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI), said technical service units play a key role in improving industrial productivity and competitiveness.

She said standardization ensures products meet quality, safety and consistency requirements, giving domestic manufacturers a stronger position against global competitors.

Pontianak BSPJI Head Ahmad Nashoruddin Muammar said cooperation with businesses supports the agency’s efforts to help manufacturers meet standards and certification requirements.

“We are ready to support businesses through testing, certification, technical consulting and workforce development to improve product quality and competitiveness,” he said.

Ahmad said the fertilizer industry plays a significant role in agriculture and food security, making standards and product certification essential for ensuring fertilizer quality.
