Asian Games 2026: Tremors shake athletes awake

Asian Games 2026

BENGALURU: Several members of the Indian athletics contingent training in Tsukuba City, ahead of the Asian Games beginning in Nagoya on Saturday, rushed out of their hotel rooms on Wednesday night after a tremor shook them from their sleep. While some athletes thought it was a dream, few others shared that they felt someone had barged into their room and begun shaking their bed.

“It was a real scare for many of the athletes as their beds began to shake and hit the wall. Many ran out of their rooms and gathered in the corridor, while a few others learned about the tremor only at the breakfast table,” sources told TOI.“There is no damage but it lasted for around 30-60 seconds and the hotel was shaking vigorously,” they added. The earthquake that hit the Tsukuba region on Wednesday night had a magnitude of 5.0 on the Mw scale. Nagoya experienced heavy rains last week, and Typoon Dujuan is expected to hit the coastline on Monday.
