Karim Zito sacked over inconsistent results and disunity among backroom staff – AshantiGold CEO

AshantiGold Chief Executive Officer Edward Kwasi Akuoko has attributed the dismissal of Karim Zito and his assistants to inconsistent results and disunity among the backroom staff.
The Obuasi-based club announced the decision in a statement on October 27, relieving the former Asante Kotoko coach and his two assistants, Ernest Okyere and Robert Dabuo, of their duties following a consultative meeting of the Interim Management Committee.
AshantiGold have made a mixed start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign, recording three wins in their opening eight matches.
They currently sit 11th on the league table with 11 points.
“As a serious club, you always want to win,” Akuoko told Obaapa Radio.
“I’m not a leader who always lowers expectations just because we are a newly promoted side. We are not saying we have to win the league at all costs, but we simply want consistent results. Our away performances have been poor.
“The second reason is that, personally, I received reports that the technical team led by Karim Zito were not on good terms, and that could be affecting our results.”
Zito joined AshantiGold in February 2026, 15 days after resigning from Kotoko, where he had been in charge.
The former Dreams FC coach subsequently guided AshantiGold to promotion to the Ghana Premier League.
Meanwhile, the club said that a caretaker coach would take charge of the team until a substantive head coach and technical director is appointed.
