US Supreme Court rejects Trump bid to restrict mail ballots ahead of November midterm elections

Translate

In a major setback for President Donald Trump, the US Supreme Court on Monday rejected his bid to restrict mail ballots ahead of the November midterm elections, Associated Press reported.

The decision capped a series of last-minute legal challenges over Trump's proposed restrictions and marked a defeat for the president on an issue he has repeatedly highlighted as crucial to election integrity.

Mail ballots have accounted for nearly a third of votes cast, while there is virtually no evidence of fraud involving the voting method, according to the AP report.

The Supreme Court's majority did not explain its reasoning, as is typical of its emergency docket. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas publicly dissented from the brief order.

More details awaited
