Ghost Rider's New Era Officially Begins In 3 Days

Marvel's Ghost Rider starts a new era this month, with a new series dedicated to the Spirit of Vengeance. The X-Men's long-awaited arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is understandably the main subject of conversations about the MCU's future, but Ghost Rider's solo movie is another exciting development. Announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026, Marvel Studios' upcoming Ghost Rider movie will star Ryan Gosling as the titular anti-hero, with Shawn Levy directing and Jonathan Tropper writing the screenplay.
Although Gosling is inheriting the Johnny Blaze role from Nicolas Cage, there are far more Ghost Riders in Marvel lore than the former stunt performer. The only other Ghost Rider to have appeared in live-action is the muscle car driver Robbie Reyes, who was played by Gabriel Luna in Agents of SHIELD. Other heroes who share the mantle are Danny Ketch, who's Johnny Blaze's long-lost half-brother, and Alejandra Jones, who develops a particularly dangerous version of the Penance Stare. Famously, the Punisher becomes Cosmic Ghost Rider in an alternate future, combining the Spirit of Vengeance with the Power Cosmic.
Kushala, a nineteenth-century Ghost Rider, also combines the power of the Spirit of Vengeance with another famous title a select few Marvel characters have been worthy of having.
Kushala Stars In Her Own Ghost Rider Solo Comic
Ghost Rider: Kushala #1; Written By B. Earl & Taboo, Art By Guillermo Sana, Jordie Bellaire, Jeffrey Veregge, Ruth Redmond, And Vanessa R. Del Rey; Letters By Joe Sabino
Set for release on November 4, 2026, in celebration of National Native American Heritage Month, Ghost Rider: Kushala #1 shines the spotlight on the most underrated Spirit of Vengeance in the Marvel Universe. Written by B. Earl and Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, with illustration work from artists Guillermo Sanna and Vanessa R. Del Rey, this special one-shot print edition brings Kushala's digital Infinity Comic chapters into a physical format in the form of a supersized 88-page print collection. The first preview pages show Kushala swearing to rescue her kidnapped daughter and her mission to traverse the past, present, and future to achieve it.
Kushala stands out among the Ghost Riders as the only human host to ever fully master and tame the Spirit of Vengeance, as she uses her immense mystical knowledge to control the mystical entity. Her recent exploits across Marvel Comics have kept her heavily involved in the Ghost Riders' occult corners, including prominent roles alongside the supernatural line-up in Midnight Suns and a team-up with fellow spirits like Danny Ketch and Robbie Reyes in Spirits of Violence. Ghost Rider: Kushala #1 gives one of Marvel's best Indigenous lead characters the center stage and shows her potential for a longer-running series of her own.
Ghost Rider: Kushala Sets Up Doctor Doom As A Multiversal Villain
Doctor Doom Sets His Sights On A New Equivalent To The Infinity Stones
Ghost Rider: Kushala pits the titular Spirit of Vengeance against Doctor Doom, who has set his sights on multiversal conquest parallel to his MCU counterpart, and has already retrieved five of the six Wands of Watoomb from all across the Marvel Multiverse. However, Doom struggles to complete his own multiversal version of the Infinity Gauntlet due to Kushala's lineage, who represents the biggest obstacle to his quest. This is why Doom has been capturing and attacking Kushala's descendants, knowing only one of them could lead his whole plans to crumble.
Besides using advanced sorcery to attack Kushala's relatives, Doctor Doom also tries to prevent the Apache Sorcerer Supreme from intervening by attempting to lock Kushala outside her native era. Doom almost succeeds, but as Kushala explains, Olivia Obtera helps her stay in the battle by narrating her story. While Earth-616's Victor von Doom is experiencing a low point in literal Hell after his defeat in One World Under Doom, this version of the Latverian monarch seems just as ambitious as God Emperor Doom.
