The Federal Government has congratulated Samson Adamu following his confirmation as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football.

The National Sports Commission, in a statement, described the appointment as recognition of Adamu’s experience and progress within the continental football governing body.

NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, commended Nigeria’s career progression at CAF, where he previously served as Director of Competitions, Director of Tournaments and Events, and Acting General Secretary.

“Samson’s confirmation recognises the experience he has built within CAF. We congratulate him and wish him every success,” Dikko said.

He added that Adamu’s elevation reflected the capacity of Nigerian sports administrators to contribute to leadership at continental and international levels.

Dikko also said the appointment would encourage greater Nigerian participation in international sports administration, noting that such representation strengthens the country’s sports diplomacy and relationships across the continent.

The NSC chairman further highlighted Nigeria’s preparations to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja on November 21, 2026, and the CAF Awards in Lagos on December 10.

According to him, the events demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to sustained cooperation with CAF and provide opportunities for Nigerian businesses in hospitality, tourism, transport and media.

“The Federal Government remains committed to working with CAF to advance football and develop its commercial value,” he said.

Dikko also urged young Nigerians pursuing careers in sports administration to draw inspiration from Adamu’s progress.

“For young sports administrators, his progress shows what experience, competence and integrity can make possible,” he added.

The commission reaffirmed its readiness to work with CAF, the Nigeria Football Federation and other stakeholders to strengthen football administration and expand economic opportunities in the sport.
