"Unmissable" Ghosts movie confirms its runtime ahead of October cinema release

For fans of British TV, Ghosts: The Possession of Button House may be one of the most anticipated films of the year. And with the release coming next month, the runtime for the comedy has been confirmed.

The film is a continuation of the beloved BBC sitcom, which ran for five seasons and 34 episodes between 2019 and 2023. Little is known about the plot, though we can guess that some supernatural adventures will occur.

Ahead of its release in cinemas on 23 October, it has been confirmed by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) that the film is just under 97 minutes long. With episodes from the series typically being 30 minutes, this is certainly a bumper edition.

Furthermore, the comedy has received a PG certificate, with the BBFC citing "mild scary scenes, rude humour, violence, language and drug references". This means that the whole family can watch the action unfold.

The Possession of Button House has been co-written by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, all of whom co-created the series.

They also reprise their respective roles from the sitcom, with Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Charlotte Ritchie and Lolly Adefope also returning. Scott Ellis Watson, who is known for his role in I Swear, is a newcomer to the franchise.

The film, which is being directed by Simon Hynd, was announced back in February, with the various co-creators and co-writers sharing that they had decided to revive the franchise after developing a worthwhile story.

"We thought we had said goodbye to Button House at the end of the final season. We never planned to come back," they said. "But when we had the idea for this story, we all got so excited that we couldn't resist returning to our haunted home for one more adventure."

"We can't wait to be together and to welcome some brilliant new faces, to tell this soul-stirring tale of life and death," they added, while producers Alison Owen and Debra Hayward said that it would be an "unmissable event".

Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is released in UK cinemas on 23 October.
