Stranded giant sea turtle rescued in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat

COTABATO CITY – A giant sea turtle, found stranded on the coast of Barangay Tran, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat on Sunday, Aug. 30, is now being secured by local environment workers.

The giant turtle, measuring about 105 inches long and 91 inches wide, was found by Febrodin Ambag, a Sangguniang Kabataan council member.

Ambag posted on his Facebook page the discovery of the sea turtle.

The species of the sea turtle was not immediately known.

“I think this giant sea turtle is trying to find a place where to lay her eggs,” Ambag said, adding that the reptile appears to be weak and unable to return to deeper waters.

“Overnight, the pawikan is still in the same site where it was found the day earlier,” he added.

Ambag said that villagers jointly watched the reptile to ensure it is free from predators

He appealed to villagers not to disrupt the sea turtle and other marine life that strands in the coast of Barangay Tran.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Lebak has yet to issue a statement on the status of the rescued sea turtle. /jpv
