Woman arrested for assaulting ride-hailing driver in Cairo

Translate

Security forces in Cairo arrested a woman who appeared in a viral video verbally abusing the driver of a vehicle operating via a ride-hailing app.

She was shown using obscene language and threatening to harm the driver, while claiming that her husband is a police officer.

The Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that the driver had been identified, and that he resides in Qalyubiya Governorate.

When questioned, the driver said that on Saturday, while the woman was a passenger in his vehicle at Nasr City area, she brought along a number of people that exceeded the car’s capacity.

The driver asked her to cancel the trip, causing her to verbally insult him. This prompted the driver to record the incident to document what had taken place.

The ministry added that the woman was identified and apprehended; she resides at the Fifth Settlement.

When confronted, she admitted that she had never been married and that her claim of being the wife of a police officer was false, a fabrication intended to intimidate the driver after she objected to him filming her as she assaulted him.

The necessary legal measures have been taken regarding the incident.
