A 10-man Malappuram FC crushed Thrissur Magic FC 4-0 to register its first win in the Super League Kerala (SLK) before a full house at the Payyanad stadium here on Saturday.

A brace by C.K. Rashid (65th & 72nd) and goals from Muhamed Mahdi (76th) and Amadou Soukouna (90+7th) completed a remarkable win for the home side despite Ghanaian Abdul Samed being sent off in the 48th minute for a foul on Saljit Santra.

Moroccan Abdelhay Elforsy was the man behind Malappuram’s resurgence. The wily Elforsy orchestrated the moves and provided two assists as Malappuram ran Thrissur ragged in the second half.

Malappuram’s comeback started in the 64th minute when Thrissur conceded a corner-kick off a counter attack. Elforsy floated the ball into the box and Abdul Hakku’s header ricocheted off the bar and the rebound was cleared out for another corner-kick. However, this time Rashid broke the deadlock, scoring from close range after the Thrissur defence failed to clear the ball.

Elforsy set up the second goal after he moved into the box and squared the ball for Rashid to double the lead in the 72nd.

Another counterattack saw the overlapping Muhammed Bilal give a defence splitting pass to Mahdi who made it 3-0 with a clinical finish. Soukouna completed the rout in the added time by scoring off another assist from Elforsy.

It was a frantic end to the contest after a cagey first half which saw Thrissur engage in a low block to thwart Malappuram which had more possession and chances.

The result

Malappuram FC 4 (Rashid 65, 72, Mahdi 76, Soukouna 90+7) bt Thrissur Magic FC 0.
