The West African Examinations Council, Nigeria, has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series.

WAEC announced the extension in a post on its X handle on Saturday.

“Registration for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 – Second Series has now been extended to Friday, 28 August 2026,” the council said.

It urged prospective candidates to take advantage of the extension and complete their registration.

Commonly referred to as WAEC GCE, the exam caters to individuals who are not enrolled in regular secondary schools.

It provides an opportunity for those seeking to obtain or improve their O’Level results independently.

The council said the examination would be conducted entirely as a Computer-Based Examination (CBE).

The registration fee remains N37,000, while the examination is scheduled to take place between September and October 2026.

WAEC advised candidates to visit the nearest WAEC office in their state to confirm available examination towns before completing their registration.

PUNCH Online reports that registration for the examination commenced on May 4, 2026 and the latest extension supersedes the earlier deadline of July 31, 2026.
