Aaron Pierre's New Straight-To-Streaming Movie Is An Instant Success After Lanterns

Brennan Klein (he/him) is a senior news writer at Screen Rant, host of the Attack of the Queerwolf podcast, and contributor at Alternate Ending and Horror Press. He has been writing and podcasting about pop culture (especially horror movies) for over a decade at platforms including Blumhouse, Fangoria, Dread Central, The Backlot, and Arrow in the Head.
Aaron Pierre's new movie is rocketing to the top of the streaming charts. Pierre is a 32-year-old actor who kicked off his career on the small screen in the late 2010s (most notably playing Dev-Em in 20 episodes of Krypton) before making his first movie appearance in 2021's Old. From then on, his career blended notable movie and TV roles, including playing Malcolm X in Genius season 4, voicing the title character in Mufasa: The Lion King, and most recently playing John Stewart opposite Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in the hit DC Universe series Lanterns.
His latest movie is 2026's Love of Your Life, which follows how the trajectory of a nurse named Maya's (Margaret Qualley) life changes when she loses a loved one. Aaron Pierre plays one of the major figures in her life, a charismatic divorced man named Felix, opposite an ensemble cast that also includes Gabriel Basso, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tamara Lawrance, Corey Johnson, and two-time Oscar nominee Catherine Keener. The movie debuted in theaters on October 7 (three days after the Lanterns season 1 finale) and began streaming on Prime Video on October 14.

The day after it premiered, on October 15, Love of Your Life instantly appeared on the overall Top 10 chart of the most-viewed movies on Prime Video globally, landing at No. 2 behind only the romance novel adaptation The Love Hypothesis, which premiered on September 23. It managed to chart higher than quite a few other notable current Prime Video originals, including the Anna Todd adaptation The Last Sunrise (No. 6) as well as the Spanish thriller Drawn Together (No. 4), which is adapted from a novel by Mercedes Ron.
It has managed to do so by virtue of appearing on the Top 10 movies chart in more than four dozen individual regions, hitting No. 1 in 12 of them (including the United Kingdom, France, Paraguay, and South Africa) and No. 2 in the United States (behind 2025's Now You See Me: Now You Don't). It has also made appearances on the Top 10 overall chart (which counts both movies and TV shows) in more than two dozen territories, hitting No. 5 in the U.S. and peaking at No. 1 in the Czech Republic and Greece.
Aaron Pierre's Hot Streak Should Continue
After conquering HBO with Lanterns and Prime Video with Love of Your Life, Aaron Pierre seems set to continue his hot streak of hits in various mediums by moving back to the big screen. His two upcoming movie roles seem poised to become major successes, starting with the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. He currently plays an unknown role in Shawn Levy's theatrical installment in the Star Wars universe, which boasts a star-studded cast led by Ryan Gosling that also features Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
Starfighter, which debuts on May 28, 2027, will be swiftly followed into theaters by the DCU's Man of Tomorrow on July 9, 2027. The movie, which is a direct sequel to James Gunn's 2025 hit Superman, will feature Aaron Pierre reprising his Lanterns role as John Stewart opposite a cast that includes David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle. If these two movies succeed, Pierre will easily be able to keep up the momentum that Love of Your Life has helped propel.
