The Pitt‘s Noah Wyle has shared a bruising encounter with Eddie Murphy that he had as a kid.

The incident occurred at the start of the 1980s, when Murphy was making his name as a breakout member of the Saturday Night Live cast.

“I met Eddie once when I was a kid,” Wyle recalled on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. “I asked him for his autograph, and I said, ‘I really like you on SNL.’ And he goes, ‘What are you doing up that late?'”

Wyle then said that he laughed nervously at Murphy’s response, before asking again. “And I said, ‘Can I have your autograph?’ He goes, ‘Fuck off, man,'” Wyle recalled.

Continuing, Wyle told Poehler that the encounter has helped to shape his own interactions with fans. “I always sign an autograph. Whenever a nine-year-old needs an autograph from me, I sign that so fast,” he said.

Meanwhile, season three of The Pitt is expected to premiere in January, and the cast have recently shared some details about the upcoming run of episodes.

According to Wyle, season three of the show will be set on November 12, 2026 and deal with the impending changes to medical insurance that came via Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

“I just like the notion that as bad as today is, tomorrow is Friday the 13th,” Wyle said at a recent press conference. “We wanted to show this period of time that we’re all in right now, which is a moment of apprehension and fear for a lot of people as they await the changes that are going to come in the Big Beautiful Bill in January. We wanted to hit that moment and depict it.”

Wyle has already won two Emmys for his performance Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the acclaimed medical drama, one for each season of The Pitt to date.
